FLYING TO NORTHERN ITALY: YOUR OPTIONS

As a foreign participant, you have to fly into Northern Italy first and then proceed onwards to your final destination

When choosing your route, you can reach the following destination airports, flying with different carriers:

Terminal 1 – Main European and Overseas carriers
Terminal 2 – Easyjet flights (only)

REACHING YOUR FINAL DESTINATION: PARMA

Except for driving, and for landing at Parma airport, there are no direct connections between many of the aforementioned airports and Parma, unfortunately

Participants flying to Milan airports have to reach Milan Central railway Station (see description below) first, to board a train to Parma/Bologna/Ancona

Participants flying to Bologna airport have to reach Bologna Central railway Station (see description below) first, to board a train to Parma/Piacenza/Milan

If you arrive at MALPENSA airport, you will have different ways of getting to Milan Central railway Station, according to the Terminal you land at. From Terminal 1, both listed options apply. From Terminal 2only the second option is viable

Option 1: TRAIN (good if you arrive in busy hours)

Malpensa Express trains connect the Malpensa Terminal 1 directly with the centre of Milan. Notice that only selected trains terminate at the Central railway Station. Some trains arrive at Cadorna railway Station, where you can reach the Central railway Station via the Tube(Metro) (green line). To save time, it is strongly recommended to take a direct train to the Central railway Station. Trains depart every 30 minutes and the journey time to the Central railway Station is about 50 minutes (40 minutes up to Cadorna). From Cadorna, you further need to take the Tube(Metro) to the Central railway Station (green line to Centrale FS, direction Gessate/Cologno Nord 5 stops)

Option 2: COACH (but it can get stuck in traffic)

Two different operators provide a service between Malpensa airport and Milan Central railway Station. MALPENSASHUTTLE is the most convenient. It departs every 20 minutes from exit 4 and the timetable is available here. Tickets can be purchased on the coach

If you arrive at LINATE airport
Take the coach to Milan Central railway Station. Trips are operated by STARFLY and depart every 20/30 minutes from outside the arrivals lounge
Tickets can be bought at Agenzia Starfly Linate or on the bus

Once you have reached Milan Central railway Station

Parma is about 120 Km South of Milan on the Milano-Bologna railway line. Trains leave Milan Central railway Station almost every hour and take about an hour and a half to reach Parma. You can schedule your train journey consulting this website

If you arrive at Milan BERGAMO airport, you have two options to reach Milan Central railway Station

Option 1: COACH to Milan Central railway Station

Take the coach to Milan Central railway Station. Trips are operated by two companies, of which ORIOSHUTTLE is the most convenient. The coach departs in front of the exit located on the right of the arrival lounge at the times listed here. Tickets can be bought either on the bus or at the sales office located at the exit gate

Option 2: City BUS to Bergamo railway Station and train to Milan Central railway Station

Take a city bus from the airport to the Bergamo railway Station. Services run every 15/20 minutes from 6:00 a.m. to 00.30 a.m. Tickets are sold at either tourist desk at the arrival lounge or at the ticket machine outside the exit. Then, you can reach Milan Central railway Station by train

Once you have reached Milan Central railway Station

Take the Areobus Airport City Link line from the Airport to the Bologna Central railway Station. There is direct scheduled service every 11 minutes. The first trip from the airport is at 5:30 am, and the last trip is at 12:15 am. The first trip from the railway station is at 5:00 am, and the last trip is at 11:35 pm. From 7:00 am to 9:30 pm a bus runs between the airport and the railway station every 11 minutes. Get the complete timetable here

Once you have reached Bologna Central railway Station

Parma is about 100 Km North of Bologna on the Milano-Bologna railway line. Trains leave Bologna Central railway Station almost every hour and take between about 50 minutes and a hour and fifteen to reach Parma. You can schedule your train journey consulting this website

If you land at one of the airports in the Milan/Bergamo area, please follow directions for Milan first and then Bologna on the A1 motorway. Take the Parma exit
